Moments in Time Travel

 WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27, 2024 It’s just under 3 hours to Cannes, our first stop on the French Riviera. The ride is rich with farmland, grape vines, fruit trees. Spring is here in the south of France. All the tree have their leaves now. We see fewer flowering trees. We have become desensitized to the beauty of rock formations. Off in the distance we’ll see a castle high on the hill. It’s another medieval village.  Our first stop is Cannes. The film festival is in May, so it shouldn’t be crowded. At first it had a tacky Miami vibe with palm tree lined streets and high rise apartments. Then we made our way down to the beach. At first sight, your eye is drawn to magnificent boats anchored off the shoreline. Across the street are high end stores like Louis Vuitton,  Ferragamo and Hermes. It’s also home to many multi story hotels and condominiums. There is a stone promenade along the beach area. We parked and took in the  gorgeous view.    Next we are going to Grass...

                   TUESDAY, MARCH 26, 2024  Today has an 85% chance of rain today. We have been so lucky with the  weather. Each day has been in the 60s° to low 70s° and full sun. We decided to go back to Carrières des Lumières in Les Baux-de-Provence. We had an early start and want to see the 9:30 start. We came in a different way this time and the stone was spectacular. We got to see 2 men scaling the face of one area of the structure.  Wow the  Carrières des Lumières was awesome! It is a multimedia show in this huge cave with 40 ft high ceilings. The masterpieces of Van Gogh and Ver Meer were shown on many of the walls and set them to music. The space was a perfect coupling with the artwork.   Next we went back to where Vincent Van Gogh lived in an insane asylum. The museum and gardens were closed when we were there last week.  MONDAY MARCH 25, 2024 This morning we are going Aix-en -Provence. It is is about an hour southeast of Avignon. It’s pronounced EX. Aix in a town name meant it was built over a hot spring. There is not an ancient sight to be seen. Paul Cezanne 1839-1906 lived and loved Aix. We put The Rotunde in Waze to find the center of town. Something flashed on the screen about a special ticket needed to go there. I didn’t pay attention to it and clicked on drive. Well, it meant you had to have a pass as a taxi or shop owner to go down certain streets. We followed a construction vehicle and he turned off, we continued on our way and was boxed in with no access out! Ugh what to do? We backed up and someone let us out! All was right in our corner of France! We found part of the Cezannè walk where he painted.  Paul Cezannè over our shoulder! Salon de Provence is our next stop. Susie remembers a mushroom tree.
