Moments in Time Travel

 We were all packed and ready to go! Steve and Jeff had a dry run of tying the suitcases on top of the roof of the car Beverly Hillbilly’s style. So we knew it would work. We said goodbye to our favorite people. Antoinella in Luna’s. Jeff and Steve had gotten her an orchid plant and had given it to her to thank her for her kindness all month. In the small world department, they bought it from a florist who happens to be Antoinella’s cousin! She loved it and had tears in her eyes when it was given to her.  As we walked through town, we saw it was placed in the window. We said goodbye to our favorite bread store. The line was usually out the door…a very good sign!  We spent our last day enjoying the beauty of Polignano a Mare. We had lunch right in the Garibaldi Plaza at Begula Restaurant.  There was a woman going table to table selling bracelets looking for a benefactor for her baby that was strapped to her back. We did see her later on her new iPhone.  Then Steve and Jeff walked down to Lama Monachili to see the water. Susie and I watched their journey! We had been reading about a famous espresso and amaretto latte with a lemon peel drink that was invented in Polignano a Mare. Susie and I had one. We pictured a tall drink filled with ice. No it was a small espresso cup. It was delicious  We went through old town on our way home.  We took a selfie und the Volare sign. Jeff and Susie figured out that the words to the whole song are written across the street on Via Roma! We relaxed back at the house, rooftop reading, terrace reading, because we are so stressed…ha ha! I almost said it without laughing. One month in Southern...

 We did a little shopping in old town. We saw a perfect gift for Jeff. It was a horseshoe! It will help him remember his first taste of horse in Italy!  We decided to go over to Martina Franca. They have a beautiful Old Town. Lots of winding streets with charming doorways. Lots of Baroque influence. They have a beautiful town square with several churches.  We decided to go to a lunch spot that Glenn had recommended. He said it was a favorite of his in Martina Franca. It proved to be a beautiful spot on a winding alleyway. It was called Gaonas. It was named after a priest in the area.  Everything was delicious. I think it was one of the best meals of the trip. We had white rabbit sauce with truffles and capers and olives over fettuccine. We didn’t know if it was a white rabbit or the sauce was white.
