Traveling to Avignon

 WEDNESDAY MARCH 6, 2024 INTO THURSDAY MARCH 7, 2024

We spent the night at the Castle’s in Fairfield. We woke up by 8AM and Susie and I went for manicures and pedicures. 


We picked up a few last minute things for our trip. Andy picked us up at 12 and we sailed into Newark Airport in less than an hour and a half. We checked in and our bags were whisked away, we put our problems with Lufthansa in our rearview mirror and now we are on Team Air France. Susie’s doctor suggested that she book a wheelchair once in the airport in order to minimize the walking. For some reason, my ticket was stamped wheelchair as well. So we all were given VIP treatment through security. I had my fingers crossed that we didn’t see anyone we knew! Our connections were great. Newark to Paris to Marseille. Our luggage all arrived . We couldn’t have asked for a better way to travel. 
Francois our driver, was waiting for us at the exit of the Marseille Airport. We got all our luggage into his car and off we went to our house in Avignon. The house is beautiful. We dropped our bags off and went out to find something to eat.

Susie walked into a little restaurant. It just so happened to be a Michelin restaurant. We thought maybe not for a quick lunch. We found a little sandwich spot and bought some  paninis, quiche, and a potato pancake bun with chicken and broccoli. We sat on the steps of the Place Crillon which is right around the corner from our house. We did get quite a few stares from people. I guess stoop eating is not the norm here!

We went back to the house napped and unpacked. We went out again and walked south to see that neighborhood. It’s called Place De L’ Horloge. Avignon is a big city with lots of shopping and restaurants. 
We found a great spot for dinner. We spoke to the owner and made a reservation for tonight. It’s was called La Cour Du Louvre. It was a 3 Course Prix fixe. 


Vegetable torte
Asparagus soup.
Salmon, shrimp and white fish with fettuccine.
                                     Beef bourguignon 
We had crème brûlée and citron meringue for dessert. We walked back to the house. Off to bed!  Bonne nuit!

    My mom always says a wheelchair in the airport is like a magic carpet ride through security! Glad you arrived safely. Hope Susie feels ok after the flight. Dinner sounds delicious!!

 June 12, 2026 – Stirling Castle and a Scottish Welcome Good morning, Edinburgh! Steve and Jeff went out exploring early this morning while Susie and I stayed back to get ready for the day. During their walk, they visited St. Mary’s Cathedral. Construction took five years and was completed in 1885 at a cost of £110,000, which would be roughly equivalent to several million dollars today. One interesting fact we learned is that no building in Edinburgh is permitted to be taller than the Castle, helping preserve the city’s historic skyline. At 12:45, we met the other 20 travelers on our Tauck tour in the hotel lobby. The group seems wonderful, with most people around our age, along with a few who are younger and a few who are older.   Saturday, June 13, 2026 – Edinburgh, Scotland We had a leisurely breakfast at 7:00 a.m. because it was wheels up at 8:00 for a full day of sightseeing of Edinburgh. Our first stop was a private tour of Palace of Holyroodhouse. The palace is magnificent and steeped in centuries of history. It serves as the official Scottish residence of King Charles III. Since the King is not currently in residence, we were fortunate to be allowed to tour his home. He is expected to arrive later this month for Royal Week. No photographs were permitted inside the palace. Tauk gave us a souvenir tour book so I have included some pictures.  The dining room was set for fourteen guests with beautiful green china designed to complement the wall color. We walked through the actual sitting room where members of the Royal Family receive guests before dinner.
