Happy St Patrick’s Day!🍀🍀🍀

We haven’t seen an Irishman in France. We were up and out by 8:00 today. Today we are on our way to L’Isle de la Sorgue. There is a huge Flea Market on Sundays. It’s a pretty drive with lots of grape vines. The cherry on top are the lavender fields! They are still dormant now, but in July and August will be breathtaking!



The markets are more than a flea market in our terms. Lots of bags, shoes, scarves clothes in addition to breads, meats,  and cheeses. They even have an antique area where they were selling many of the things we boxed up and donated last year when we were selling our house! The Sorgue River crashes into the basin of town and splits into multiple tributaries throughout the town. The market on Sundays takes place on the sidewalk along the Sorgue River. 













Off we go to Gordes. It is one of the most popular hilltop villages in Provence. As you approach Gordss the village seems to spill down the hillside. It screams for its picture to be taken.  The roads are a labyrinth of rock walls!

We had a fantastic lunch at L’Outsider. It was probably our best meal of the trip. Steve, Susie, and Jeff had leg of lamb. I had filet mignon. The desserts were outstanding. We shared pavlova with the first strawberries of the season with a citrus sauce, chocolate fondant with vanilla and chocolate cream, and crème brûlée with rosemary. We will remember Gordes for more than the view !





Next we are going to Roussillon. It is in the heart of one of the biggest ocre deposits in the world. It is famous for its magnificent red cliffs and ochre quarries. The red, yellow and brown shades of earth form a striking contrast with the lush green pine trees. It’s another beautiful hilltop village.








Back to Avignon for relaxing and a light dinner of the meats and cheeses we bought at the market today. We played 5 Crowns. Steve won. The score is Steve 4, Susie 2, Me 2, Jeff 1.

 June 12, 2026 – Stirling Castle and a Scottish Welcome Good morning, Edinburgh! Steve and Jeff went out exploring early this morning while Susie and I stayed back to get ready for the day. During their walk, they visited St. Mary’s Cathedral. Construction took five years and was completed in 1885 at a cost of £110,000, which would be roughly equivalent to several million dollars today. One interesting fact we learned is that no building in Edinburgh is permitted to be taller than the Castle, helping preserve the city’s historic skyline. At 12:45, we met the other 20 travelers on our Tauck tour in the hotel lobby. The group seems wonderful, with most people around our age, along with a few who are younger and a few who are older.   Saturday, June 13, 2026 – Edinburgh, Scotland We had a leisurely breakfast at 7:00 a.m. because it was wheels up at 8:00 for a full day of sightseeing of Edinburgh. Our first stop was a private tour of Palace of Holyroodhouse. The palace is magnificent and steeped in centuries of history. It serves as the official Scottish residence of King Charles III. Since the King is not currently in residence, we were fortunate to be allowed to tour his home. He is expected to arrive later this month for Royal Week. No photographs were permitted inside the palace. Tauk gave us a souvenir tour book so I have included some pictures.  The dining room was set for fourteen guests with beautiful green china designed to complement the wall color. We walked through the actual sitting room where members of the Royal Family receive guests before dinner.
