We all slept in this morning. Then Steve and Jeff went to get the cappuccino and croissants at the bakery across the way. After breakfast we all went for a long walk around the other side of town. It was more residential than the area surrounding the Pope’s Palace. We ended our walk at the market. We bought some cheeses, bread, and meats to make sandwiches for lunch. We brought our loot back to the house and made lunch.





After lunch Susie and I stayed back at the house to read and write. Jeff and Steve explored and scouted out the Pope’s palace. Later on we walked around different Avignon streets and found a cute spot for dinner tonight. 





   We finally found the clock! Hence the name Place L’Horloge! 

What we noticed about Avignon is the quiet. In the stores, people speak in a very soft voice. The streets are quiet. No cars are beeping horns. No construction anywhere either. In restaurants the people speak very softly to each other. We have to remind ourselves to speak quietly. Also, the people of Avignon do not like Paris! It’s too brash, busy and the sky isn’t blue!

We had dinner here this evening. The waitress was very helpful. She said that she didn’t speak much English, but she spoke well. She also told me about Google Lens. If you take a picture, it will translate the words on that picture. Perfect for menus and signs.

We shared a starter. Not quite sure what they all were, but they were all delicious. For our entrees, Jeff had rabbit, Susie had fois gras, Steve had fish and I had filet mignon. Each dish was better than the next. Though Susie and I didn’t try Bugs Bunny. We all thought it was our best meal to date.

We found a different route to go back home. We played another game of 5 Crowns. This time I won! Hurray my losing streak has been broken. I hadn’t won a game in a year! Score now is Steve 3, Susie, Jeff and I 1 each.  We are now off to bed! Bonne nuit 💤😴

  Day 1–2: From NewYork/Connecticut to Edinburgh June 10–11, 2026 Our long-awaited Scotland adventure began on June 10 as Steve and I met up with Jeff and Susie and headed to JFK Airport for our overnight flight to Edinburgh.  June 12, 2026 – Stirling Castle and a Scottish Welcome Good morning, Edinburgh! Steve and Jeff went out exploring early this morning while Susie and I stayed back to get ready for the day. During their walk, they visited St. Mary’s Cathedral. Construction took five years and was completed in 1885 at a cost of £110,000, which would be roughly equivalent to several million dollars today. One interesting fact we learned is that no building in Edinburgh is permitted to be taller than the Castle, helping preserve the city’s historic skyline. At 12:45, we met the other 20 travelers on our Tauck tour in the hotel lobby. The group seems wonderful, with most people around our age, along with a few who are younger and a few who are older.   Saturday, June 13, 2026 – Edinburgh, Scotland We had a leisurely breakfast at 7:00 a.m. because it was wheels up at 8:00 for a full day of sightseeing of Edinburgh. Our first stop was a private tour of Palace of Holyroodhouse. The palace is magnificent and steeped in centuries of history. It serves as the official Scottish residence of King Charles III. Since the King is not currently in residence, we were fortunate to be allowed to tour his home. He is expected to arrive later this month for Royal Week. No photographs were permitted inside the palace. Tauk gave us a souvenir tour book so I have included some pictures.  The dining room was set for fourteen guests with beautiful green china designed to complement the wall color. We walked through the actual sitting room where members of the Royal Family receive guests before dinner.
