 SATURDAY, March 16, 2024

Steve and Jeff are picking up the car today. Francois is busy giving a wine tour , so he is not available to drive them to the car rental. He did say that they could take the train from the end of town. We found tickets online. Off they went! 🤞They had a few little snags in picking up the car. The train they were scheduled for was cancelled. It was just as well because they forgot the parking pass and Jeff had to walk back for it. When they got to the car rental place, Steve couldn’t fit in the VW T-Cross we had reserved.They opted for a VW Tiguan. All good!

While they were getting the car Susie and I walked around. They were having a sidewalk sale up and down the streets. We wandered in and out of stores confident that we would be back since they are in our neighborhood. 

Spring has sprung in Avignon! Flowers are blooming and trees are budding. Now that we have the car we are going to an open market in Uzes. Lots of grape vines out the window. 

Uzes is known for having the prettiest city squares in France. They were having a sidewalk sale. We stopped for lunch.








Off to Pont du Gard. It was built by the Romans in the 1st Century as a way to get water from Uzes to Nimes. It is made from limestone and it doesn’t have any mortar between the stone. The weight of each stone on top of the other is what keeps it together. It is the oldest standing aqueduct in the world. 






Back to Avignon to relax and read. Jeff decided to swim in the pool today. The thermometer read 80°, but he thought it was much colder. 


We went to a cute crepe spot for dinner…it was Ok. Back to the house to play 5 Crowns. I won tonight. The score now is:
Steve 3, Susie and I have 2, Jeff 1.
Off to L’Isle Sur La Sorge in the morning!

  Day 1–2: From NewYork/Connecticut to Edinburgh June 10–11, 2026 Our long-awaited Scotland adventure began on June 10 as Steve and I met up with Jeff and Susie and headed to JFK Airport for our overnight flight to Edinburgh.  June 12, 2026 – Stirling Castle and a Scottish Welcome Good morning, Edinburgh! Steve and Jeff went out exploring early this morning while Susie and I stayed back to get ready for the day. During their walk, they visited St. Mary’s Cathedral. Construction took five years and was completed in 1885 at a cost of £110,000, which would be roughly equivalent to several million dollars today. One interesting fact we learned is that no building in Edinburgh is permitted to be taller than the Castle, helping preserve the city’s historic skyline. At 12:45, we met the other 20 travelers on our Tauck tour in the hotel lobby. The group seems wonderful, with most people around our age, along with a few who are younger and a few who are older.   Saturday, June 13, 2026 – Edinburgh, Scotland We had a leisurely breakfast at 7:00 a.m. because it was wheels up at 8:00 for a full day of sightseeing of Edinburgh. Our first stop was a private tour of Palace of Holyroodhouse. The palace is magnificent and steeped in centuries of history. It serves as the official Scottish residence of King Charles III. Since the King is not currently in residence, we were fortunate to be allowed to tour his home. He is expected to arrive later this month for Royal Week. No photographs were permitted inside the palace. Tauk gave us a souvenir tour book so I have included some pictures.  The dining room was set for fourteen guests with beautiful green china designed to complement the wall color. We walked through the actual sitting room where members of the Royal Family receive guests before dinner.
