Saint Tropez

 FRIDAY MARCH 29, 2024 

We had a 9:30 start and checked out of Domaine du Mas de Pierre. We’re heading south with our first stop at Port Grimaud. It is the Venice of Provence. It was a beautiful little village with yachts parked right outside houses and condos.





Next stop is Saint Tropez. The boats parked in the waterfront are right out of the Bravo show Below Deck. They have all the same stores we have seen throughout France. We had lunch at a waterfront bistro. Johan had told us about a pastry that originated in Saint Tropez, it’s called Tarte Tropèzienne. 


Apparently Bridget Bardot while filming a movie there, was involved in its pastry creation. We of course tried it. It was good, it’s a sweet brioche top and bottom (like a big hamburger bun with a creamy custard like filling) Today is Good Friday…so we had gazpacho and fish and chips. 







Back in the car for our 2 1/2 hour drive back to Avignon. Lots of vinyards and olive groves. In the distance we could see huge rock formations. They were in untouched. Was it marble or granite? I don’t know, but it was beautiful.
Johan had told us about a grocery store where they sell Easter candy. We have yet to find the solid foil wrapped eggs. We found it. It’s a mall like we have in the US. Within in the mall is a huge Target/Shop Rite/Wine Depot combination store. You could get anything from washing machines to lettuce! 



Back to our place in Avignon. It’s 6:30! We are going next door for dinner at the Red Hat. Delicious! Bonne Nuit💤💤💤💕

 June 12, 2026 – Stirling Castle and a Scottish Welcome Good morning, Edinburgh! Steve and Jeff went out exploring early this morning while Susie and I stayed back to get ready for the day. During their walk, they visited St. Mary’s Cathedral. Construction took five years and was completed in 1885 at a cost of £110,000, which would be roughly equivalent to several million dollars today. One interesting fact we learned is that no building in Edinburgh is permitted to be taller than the Castle, helping preserve the city’s historic skyline. At 12:45, we met the other 20 travelers on our Tauck tour in the hotel lobby. The group seems wonderful, with most people around our age, along with a few who are younger and a few who are older.   Saturday, June 13, 2026 – Edinburgh, Scotland We had a leisurely breakfast at 7:00 a.m. because it was wheels up at 8:00 for a full day of sightseeing of Edinburgh. Our first stop was a private tour of Palace of Holyroodhouse. The palace is magnificent and steeped in centuries of history. It serves as the official Scottish residence of King Charles III. Since the King is not currently in residence, we were fortunate to be allowed to tour his home. He is expected to arrive later this month for Royal Week. No photographs were permitted inside the palace. Tauk gave us a souvenir tour book so I have included some pictures.  The dining room was set for fourteen guests with beautiful green china designed to complement the wall color. We walked through the actual sitting room where members of the Royal Family receive guests before dinner.
