Monte Carlo Monaco

When we came down to the lobby this morning and went outside to get our car, we thought we were at a car show for The Rich and Famous. There was a Lamborghini SUV  six Ferraris, Porsches and a Bentley. Our VW Tiguan was easy to spot. It was a precursor to what we would see in Monte Carlo. 


We’re on our way to Monte Carlo. It’s only 18 miles from St. Paul de Vence. Due to traffic and winding roads, it takes over an hour to get there. The roads are not as bad as driving to Positano, plus there isn’t a 1,000’ drop into the sea! Monte Carlo is where the beautiful wealthy people play. The casino was open, but unfortunately Steve and I didn’t have our passports so we couldn’t go into the casino. We were able to go into the lobby which was opulent. 







Prince Rainer has quite a collection of cars.He has them open to the public. Steve and Jeff went inside. It was 2 floors with over 100 cars in his collection. Monte Carlo is preparing for the Grand Prix. They race along the winding street, so they are busy building guardrails along the racecourse. 






Next we are off to Eze. It’s a hilltop village overlooking the Mediterranean. The streets are winding and narrow with only foot traffic.















Next we went to St. Paul de Vence. It is another beautiful hilltop village. The streets are decorative stone almost in a sunflower pattern. 








Back to the hotel. What a full day! The thought of getting dressed and going out to dinner was daunting. We opted for room service on our balcony and watching the sunset!









Quick game of Rummy 500, Steve won and off to bed!

 June 12, 2026 – Stirling Castle and a Scottish Welcome Good morning, Edinburgh! Steve and Jeff went out exploring early this morning while Susie and I stayed back to get ready for the day. During their walk, they visited St. Mary’s Cathedral. Construction took five years and was completed in 1885 at a cost of £110,000, which would be roughly equivalent to several million dollars today. One interesting fact we learned is that no building in Edinburgh is permitted to be taller than the Castle, helping preserve the city’s historic skyline. At 12:45, we met the other 20 travelers on our Tauck tour in the hotel lobby. The group seems wonderful, with most people around our age, along with a few who are younger and a few who are older.   Saturday, June 13, 2026 – Edinburgh, Scotland We had a leisurely breakfast at 7:00 a.m. because it was wheels up at 8:00 for a full day of sightseeing of Edinburgh. Our first stop was a private tour of Palace of Holyroodhouse. The palace is magnificent and steeped in centuries of history. It serves as the official Scottish residence of King Charles III. Since the King is not currently in residence, we were fortunate to be allowed to tour his home. He is expected to arrive later this month for Royal Week. No photographs were permitted inside the palace. Tauk gave us a souvenir tour book so I have included some pictures.  The dining room was set for fourteen guests with beautiful green china designed to complement the wall color. We walked through the actual sitting room where members of the Royal Family receive guests before dinner.
