Today we had a 12:30 reservation for lunch at Pollen. It is a Michelin Star rated restaurant. It’s right around the corner from our house. We wore dresses and Steve and Jeff changed out of their jeans.
The restaurant was beautiful. It was very modern with upscale lighting. It felt like we were in the movies. They had a special bench between 2 seats for you to place your purse. The dining room had seating for 22 though they only were serving 12. They said many people cancelled due to flooding in the area.
Our table was right in the middle of the dining room and we had a Birds Eye view of the chefs in the kitchen. It was like watching the ballet. Everyone had their job and the space to do it in. It was quiet too. No one spoke above a whisper so we couldn’t hear any pots banging or yelling. I wonder if they ever watched The Bear! The food was beautiful to look at, and very delectable. Steve and Jeff got the 5 course meal. Susie and I got the 3 course meal!
First we all had a crab aspic with foam.
They had an additional course of a very pretty salad that had flowers and buds with lettuce and shaved tomatoes topped with a buttery dressing, and a fish tart with trout eggs on top. I had to laugh, at one point, the chef came out with a pot and spooned the dressing on the salads. I was reminded of a family joke we had when my father at dinner time, would say if my mother brought a pot out to the dinner table to put something on our plates, “What is this, French service?”
Next,we had asparagus with grilled octopus. I enjoyed the octopus this time. The suction cups must have been removed as I could eat it.
The next course was chicken with a crispy skin in a brown gravy. They served the chicken with mashed potatoes with seaweed. Jeff and Steve had an additional white fish with shredded cabbage. It was actually delicious.
Finally dessert was a lemon curd citrus with fresh berries. Jeff and Steve had an additional warm chocolate mousse, tarts, fermented milk and kiwi and celery ice.
I never knew the Michelin Star restaurants were connected to the Michelin Man tires. But there he was in the corner of the restaurant proudly sitting on a shelf… nobody puts baby in the corner…
It was truly a great experience.
We came home, changed our clothes, relaxed, and played 5 Crowns. We had a light dinner of cheeses, meats, strawberries and breads. There is something to having 5 weeks to spend in a particular area. There is no pressure of fitting everything into each day. Our pace is slower and we can say, “Maybe tomorrow!” Bonne nuit💋
