Grignan, Saturday


                 SATURDAY MARCH 23, 2024 

 Grignan is about an hour north of Avignon. They say it’s a village with a secret. what awaits you inside the walls is a charming medieval village. There’s a tiered system of narrow and cobbled streets that wind their way around and up to the apex of the hill. There are sweeping views across the lavender, vineyards and sunflowers.its just beautiful!



The top photo is in the tour book when the lavender is in full bloom. Next is the current view with the hope of the beauty to come!

The streets are charming, with old world style. 













As you leave each town they put a red line through the name on the sign. We have seen upside down town signs. After researching I have found that it is a silent protest of the young farmers. They are mad about the EU law of leaving 4% of their farmland to fallow. 

Next we went to a Viason La Romaine. It’s a quiet village with a town square, surrounded by bistros. We had lunch at Le Montfort. 





After lunch we decided to see if we could get to the top of Mont Ventoux. The wine we had last night came from this region. It is known as the most grueling part of the bike race in the Tour de France. It’s beautiful from afar! Off we go!







                       The alps are over our shoulders!



The summit was closed due to snow! We went as far as we could go!

Next stop Gigondas. Lots of Wine Vinyards. However, 
Saturday at 4:00 everything was closed! It was a beautiful town with lots of wineries. The architecture of the houses against the blue skies was really a sight to see. Sometimes the pictures don’t do it justice!









Back home to Avignon. We’re getting street crepes for dinner and a night in!

 June 12, 2026 – Stirling Castle and a Scottish Welcome Good morning, Edinburgh! Steve and Jeff went out exploring early this morning while Susie and I stayed back to get ready for the day. During their walk, they visited St. Mary’s Cathedral. Construction took five years and was completed in 1885 at a cost of £110,000, which would be roughly equivalent to several million dollars today. One interesting fact we learned is that no building in Edinburgh is permitted to be taller than the Castle, helping preserve the city’s historic skyline. At 12:45, we met the other 20 travelers on our Tauck tour in the hotel lobby. The group seems wonderful, with most people around our age, along with a few who are younger and a few who are older.   Saturday, June 13, 2026 – Edinburgh, Scotland We had a leisurely breakfast at 7:00 a.m. because it was wheels up at 8:00 for a full day of sightseeing of Edinburgh. Our first stop was a private tour of Palace of Holyroodhouse. The palace is magnificent and steeped in centuries of history. It serves as the official Scottish residence of King Charles III. Since the King is not currently in residence, we were fortunate to be allowed to tour his home. He is expected to arrive later this month for Royal Week. No photographs were permitted inside the palace. Tauk gave us a souvenir tour book so I have included some pictures.  The dining room was set for fourteen guests with beautiful green china designed to complement the wall color. We walked through the actual sitting room where members of the Royal Family receive guests before dinner.
