Avignon March 21, 2024

We had a quiet day today. We slept in and walked up past the place L’Horloge. We had breakfast and people watched at, Cafè du Change. Our waiter had on a Packers baseball cap. Jeff told him their nickname was the “Cheeseheads.” I went online and found a picture of a Green Bay Packers fan wearing a cheese hat. He laughed and said fromage! You have made me smarter to know that!

We walked around Avignon and then went to the Market, L’Halles.

 We had a great lunch at Cusine Centr Halle’s. It was highly recommended by Mike, Lisa, and Julie when they came last April. The chef, John,  was really nice. We heard he gave cooking lessons. At first I was intimidated to take the class. But John was originally from California and English is his first language. He said we’d all have fun! So we booked the cooking class for April 2nd. 

We came back to the house, relaxed, wrote, and read our books. At 5:00 we went back outside to go up to the Palais des Papes to see the sunset. On the way we went into a beautiful lavender shop. The woman was lovely and spoke English. She was amazed at Steve’s height. She said you must have been brought up on soup! I guess it is a French expression… she had beautiful pictures of lavender fields. She told us where they were located if we wanted to see them. They don’t bloom until July, so we may pass. We bought some lavender and took pictures.

Next we climbed the steps up to the Pope’s Palace. We wanted to watch the sunset. Sunset is at 6:50 and the gardens close at 6:00 in March. In April it closes at 8:00. We’ll be back in April. It’s supposed to be the best spot for watching the sunset. In the meantime we walked around the beautiful area where the Popes lived before they lived in Italy.

We were finally able to open Andrea’s gift. It’s a French Card game that she created! She is awesome!!
