 We got an early start to our day today. Glenn had told us that they were having a vintage flea market in the park in Ostuni today. So we decided to leave at 8:30 AM in order to get there and find a place to park. We got there around 9 and it was already crowded. We found a place to park. Off we went to the flea market. Lots of glasses, dishes, lamps, etc. It was much like what Steve and I have been donating to the Vets and tossing out in Maywood! Jeff managed to find a treasure. I won’t tell you what it is. It’s his story to tell! I will say that Jeff is sure it was carved by Michelangelo. We ran into Glenn there! It was so nice to see him again. He gave us some more recommendations on wine and olive oil tours. 

After leaving Ostuni, we decided to go to Cisternino. We walked around town first. We found a beautiful overlook. Glenn said his trullis are in that part of the valley. 

 Stanley Tucci had tried a unique food called bombette. He went to Arrosteria dell Vicoletto. Bombette is a variety of small wrapped pieces of meat stuffed with cheese and spices. They put 4 on a skewer. It’s kind of like a braciole shish kabob. The process is the unique part. First you go into the restaurant. They tell you your table number. Then you go outside, you buy your bombette at a butcher store around the corner. You pay for the bombette and tell the butcher your table number. Then you go back to the restaurant and order wine, cheese plates, salad etc. In the meantime, the butcher sends the bombette to the restaurant and they cook it in a wood burning oven. The bombette was delicious. The meat was tender and very flavorful. Both the butcher shop and restaurant weren’t crowded at all today. But on a busy day in July, I can imagine it would be quite a wait at both places. I think they need some time management consulting. But then again it adds to the old world charm. 

The old town was very cool with their winding paths and stairs.

We then toured the hillside town of Martina Franca on our way back to Polignano a Mare. At home we enjoyed some sun and rooftop deck reading. We played Quidler and had a dinner of all the meats and cheeses with a delicious dessert of Tette delle Monache and fresh strawberries. We are leaving tomorrow for our 3 days in Lecche. So we discussed our itinerary.
