 The morning was beautiful. We watched the fishing boats in the Adriatic from our patio. There were 3 tour boats going in and out of the caves under our house and the Grotta Pallese Hotel next door. We walked over to Luna where we had caffe and cornetto (a sweet.) Jeff had his first cappuccino, and liked it! Everyone was happy to speak English. Or so they made us feel. The prices were unbelievable. Three coffees and 4 sweets were about $8. We walked around. 

We came upon a farmer’s market. The venders gave tastes of their olives and tiny round ringed crackers made with olive oil. The fruit and vegetables were so fresh looking. The oranges still had leaves on them. There was a vender selling homemade cheeses and meats. The fish monger was opening mussels and smelled each one to ensure freshness. When we cook in, we’ll come here for our supplies. 

We also found the train station. We want to take a day trip to Monopoli, maybe tomorrow. We’ll see about the weather forecast. 

Lunch was in our neighborhood at Il Grottino. Susie and I had pizza with a glass of rose’. Jeff and Steve had the special which was fresh fish in a light tomato sauce over pasta. 

After lunch we had a Tuk Tuk tour in an ape. It’s like a golf cart. They took us along the coastline of Polingnano a Mare, to the fishing village of San Vito. We saw the famous beach Lama Monachili. We stopped at the famous statue of Domingo Modugno the singer of Volare. We did some more walking and site seeing. Then back to the house for some down time and a quick game of 5 Crowns. Susie won! Dinner was at Antiche Mura. It means Ancient Walls. When we walked into the dining room, it actually made us gasp. It was so beautiful. The stone walls and lighting were so tastefully done. The food was delicious. Steve had  prawns over pasta. The prawns were like baby lobsters. They still had their eyes and each had 2 claws. Jeff had grilled octopus, tuna, calamari, and shrimp, Susie and I had shrimp with artichokes over pasta. Everything was so delicious. Home to bed and new adventures tomorrow.

 June 12, 2026 – Stirling Castle and a Scottish Welcome Good morning, Edinburgh! Steve and Jeff went out exploring early this morning while Susie and I stayed back to get ready for the day. During their walk, they visited St. Mary’s Cathedral. Construction took five years and was completed in 1885 at a cost of £110,000, which would be roughly equivalent to several million dollars today. One interesting fact we learned is that no building in Edinburgh is permitted to be taller than the Castle, helping preserve the city’s historic skyline. At 12:45, we met the other 20 travelers on our Tauck tour in the hotel lobby. The group seems wonderful, with most people around our age, along with a few who are younger and a few who are older.   Saturday, June 13, 2026 – Edinburgh, Scotland We had a leisurely breakfast at 7:00 a.m. because it was wheels up at 8:00 for a full day of sightseeing of Edinburgh. Our first stop was a private tour of Palace of Holyroodhouse. The palace is magnificent and steeped in centuries of history. It serves as the official Scottish residence of King Charles III. Since the King is not currently in residence, we were fortunate to be allowed to tour his home. He is expected to arrive later this month for Royal Week. No photographs were permitted inside the palace. Tauk gave us a souvenir tour book so I have included some pictures.  The dining room was set for fourteen guests with beautiful green china designed to complement the wall color. We walked through the actual sitting room where members of the Royal Family receive guests before dinner.
