 Today we slept in a bit. Jeff and Steve went to the Farmer’s Market to get provisions for dinner. Susie was our scout and found places for shopping. I stayed back to regroup and finish the blog. We had a little lunch of paninis and fruit. We have a 1:00 reservation for a boat tour of Polignano a Mare. We picked today because it was going to be sunny and 65°. We drove over to the place where we needed to meet the boat. It is a beautiful spot. There were several people sunbathing and swimming. The water temperature is 56°!  





Our Captain, Nicolai, arrived and we all got on the boat. We were 11 in all. Nicolai spoke English and was a character, very  quick witted. His is a family business called Dorino Gite in Barca. His father started it taking friends for a ride in and out of the caves in Polignano a Mare. He asked them for gas money. Then tourists started coming to Polignano a Mare due to several movies being filmed here. They were Pinocchio (2019) Spring (2014) and Night Nurse (1979) to name a few. His mother saw an opportunity. They started with 1 boat, in 1993 now they have 4.

Nicolai toured us along the coastline. We were able to see all our familiar landmarks from another perspective. It was spectacular.

Best of all was going in and out of the caves under the hotel next door Grotta Palazzese and under our house. There were 2 people who jumped in the 56° water! Their swim was a quick one. Jeff was disappointed that he didn’t bring his suit. Maybe tomorrow! Nicolai served us Prosecco and cookies. Then back to the boat launch where we started. The day was one of the best of many!

Back home after today’s excursion. Susie and I walked in the neighborhood looking in the shops. Steve and Jeff did some reading and emails and then it was time to prepare dinner.




              They made a delicious meat tray antipasto and our new favorite drink Lemoncello Spritzers!


We made calamari, zucchini, baked potatoes and grilled salmon. Everything was delicious.  Another game of 5 Crowns and then off to bed!

 June 12, 2026 – Stirling Castle and a Scottish Welcome Good morning, Edinburgh! Steve and Jeff went out exploring early this morning while Susie and I stayed back to get ready for the day. During their walk, they visited St. Mary’s Cathedral. Construction took five years and was completed in 1885 at a cost of £110,000, which would be roughly equivalent to several million dollars today. One interesting fact we learned is that no building in Edinburgh is permitted to be taller than the Castle, helping preserve the city’s historic skyline. At 12:45, we met the other 20 travelers on our Tauck tour in the hotel lobby. The group seems wonderful, with most people around our age, along with a few who are younger and a few who are older.   Saturday, June 13, 2026 – Edinburgh, Scotland We had a leisurely breakfast at 7:00 a.m. because it was wheels up at 8:00 for a full day of sightseeing of Edinburgh. Our first stop was a private tour of Palace of Holyroodhouse. The palace is magnificent and steeped in centuries of history. It serves as the official Scottish residence of King Charles III. Since the King is not currently in residence, we were fortunate to be allowed to tour his home. He is expected to arrive later this month for Royal Week. No photographs were permitted inside the palace. Tauk gave us a souvenir tour book so I have included some pictures.  The dining room was set for fourteen guests with beautiful green china designed to complement the wall color. We walked through the actual sitting room where members of the Royal Family receive guests before dinner.
